Keen to become a Registered Clinical Psychotherapist? A New Pathway into Psychotherapy Through Transactional Analysis.
PACFA Certified Practicing Counsellors and Registered Clinical Counsellors who want to expand their capabilities and progress towards membership of the PACFA College of Psychotherapy can now consider a new training opportunity from Member Association Transactional Analysis Australia (hyperlink).
Transactional Analysis Australia has developed the Advanced Transactional Analysis Certificate, the first comprehensive training program to meet the modality, personal therapy and supervision eligibility requirements of the PACFA College of Psychotherapy as outlined in the Clinical competencies for certification as a Registered Clinical Psychotherapist.
About the ATAP Program
The Advanced Transactional Analysis Certificate is a three-year specialist training pathway comprising 472 hours of instruction. The program includes:
-
TA101 Introduction to Transactional Analysis
- Transactional Analysis Practitioner (TAP) Certificate
- Advanced Transactional Analysis Practitioner (ATAP) Certificate
Transactional Analysis Australia delivers training through a mix of in-person and Zoom-based sessions, making it accessible to practitioners across Australia.
Alongside the formal coursework, participants undertake:
- Personal therapy (40 hours per year over three years)
- Clinical supervision
- Case study development
- Written assignments and reflective practice
- A PACFA Core Competency Journal
This integrated approach builds both professional competence and personal development, key elements of psychotherapy training.
The course will be led by Dr Linda Gregory and Dr Peter Milnes.
A Developmental Pathway
One of the strengths of Transactional Analysis training is its structured progression, moving practitioners from introductory learning through to advanced, psychotherapy-oriented practice.
Practitioners can begin with a TA101 course, then progress through the TAP and ATAP qualifications, building their knowledge, skills, and professional identity in a gradual and supported way.
Looking Ahead
For PACFA members who want to deepen their therapeutic work, develop a recognised psychotherapy modality, and explore membership of the PACFA College of Psychotherapy, this training pathway is well worth considering.
