PACFA PD: Supervisors' Connection Circles

PACFA College of Supervision invites supervisors to join Supervisors' Connection Circles, a four-session online reflective series facilitated by Dr Genevieve Armson and Tanya Fisher. Supervision is often spoken about as a space that supports others; less often do we speak about the experience of being the supervisor – holding complexity, remaining emotionally present, and carrying the quiet pressures of responsibility load, isolation, and ethical complexity that are not always openly named.

Across four monthly sessions, participants will explore the human and professional realities of supervision practice through gentle facilitation, guided reflective prompts, small-group discussion, and practical take-away practices. There is no expectation to present expertise, perform, or "have it all together" – these circles are a warm, boundaried, and collegial space where supervisors can think clearly, connect honestly, and stay connected to the sustainability of their work.

This is not a therapy group, assessment process, or formal training workshop. It is a reflective professional space designed to support supervisors in ongoing practice, ethical awareness, and collegial connection.

The Series

Session 1: We're Allowed to Be Human Here

Friday 31 July 2026

This opening session focuses on establishing psychological safety, reducing performance pressure, and creating connection within the group. Participants will reflect on their experience of becoming and being a supervisor, including the quiet pressures, expectations, and responsibilities that can emerge within the role. The session invites supervisors to step out of performance mode and into a more honest and grounded reflective space.

Themes include:

  • Identity within the supervisor role
  • Isolation and responsibility
  • Imposter feelings and self-pressure
  • What helps supervisors remain steady when holding complexity

Participants will leave with a short self-compassion and steadiness practice to support them between sessions.

Session 2: Authenticity with Safety

Friday 21 August 2026

This session explores how supervisors can bring authentic presence into supervision while maintaining clear professional boundaries and role clarity. Participants will reflect on the balance between warmth, humanity, professionalism, and structure within supervision relationships. The discussion will include practical reflection on what supports supervisors to remain genuine without overextending themselves.

Themes include:

  • Authenticity in supervision practice
  • Professional boundaries
  • Safety and self-disclosure
  • Structure and steadiness within supervision spaces

Participants will identify practical boundary and sustainability strategies they can integrate into their work.

Session 3: Holding the Hard Stuff Without Carrying It Home

Friday 25 September 2026

This session focuses on emotional containment, vicarious load, and maintaining steadiness when supervisees bring trauma, crisis, ethical complexity, or repeated stuckness into supervision. Participants will explore how supervision work impacts them emotionally and physically, while reflecting on practical ways to remain present without becoming overwhelmed or over-responsible.

Themes include:

  • Emotional containment
  • Rescuer pressure and responsibility load
  • Somatic awareness in supervision
  • Practical strategies for sustainable holding

Participants will be introduced to a simple containment framework and a brief closing practice designed to support transition after difficult sessions.

Session 4: Steadfast Supervision: What We Keep

Friday 23 October 2026 (9:00am AEST / 10:00am AEDT)

The final session consolidates learning, connection, and reflection across the series. Participants will reflect on what they have noticed about themselves as supervisors, the practices and boundaries that support their steadiness, and the kinds of support they may wish to continue seeking beyond the circles. The session focuses on strengthening confidence, connection, and sustainability while normalising the ongoing need for collegial support throughout supervisory practice.

Themes include:

  • Professional identity and growth
  • Sustainable supervision practice
  • Connection and collegial support
  • Maintaining steadiness over time

Participants will leave with a final reflective exercise focused on recognising and valuing their own supervision practice.

Learning outcomes:

Through participation in Supervisor Connection Circles, participants will have the opportunity to:

  • Reflect on the emotional, ethical, and professional pressures carried within the supervisor role
  • Strengthen awareness of how isolation, responsibility load, and performance pressure can impact supervisory practice
  • Explore ways to maintain authenticity, boundaries, and role clarity within supervision relationships
  • Identify practical approaches for emotional containment, transition, and professional sustainability
  • Strengthen collegial connection with other supervisors through reflective discussion
  • Develop small, sustainable practices that support steadiness over time

Who is this event for?

This series is designed for supervisors working across counselling, psychotherapy, and related helping professions. It is suitable for experienced supervisors as well as those who are developing their supervisor identity, and may be particularly relevant for those seeking collegial connection, a reflective space to consider the human realities of supervision, and ways to strengthen sustainability and steadiness over time.
