Core Course - Bereavement Counselling
This course is highly recommended for health professionals, social workers, school counsellors, psychologists, chaplains, teachers, pastoral care workers, or anyone who works with or supports dying or bereaved adults and children.
The course is conducted over 2 half days on-line, followed by a third day at the NCCG.
This course will enable participants to:
- better understand their own feelings and attitudes about death and bereavement
- identify risk factors and common grief reactions
- respond in a culturally senstive manner to death related loss
- identify a range of grief models and clinical approaches with a focus on demonstrating the practical application of ‘chaos theory’ in bereavement counselling
- demonstrate the value of clinical supervision and self care
- prepare to act in an advocacy and supportive role for dying and bereaved people
This course has a strong skills focus and encorporates role-plays and group reflection.
