What you’ll do

Are you a child focused, passionate, trauma informed practitioner? Do you have the desire to help create opportunities to enhance a child’s strengths and relationships and to support the adults in their lives recognize and respond to their trauma experiences? We are currently seeking an enthusiastic candidate to act as a specialist therapeutic consultant and practitioner. If you have a passion to help children and young people feel valued, lovable and worthwhile and want to enhance their sense of connectedness, then this is the role you have been pursuing!


The Therapeutic Specialist is an integral member of the Permanency Support Program (PSP) reporting directly to Therapeutic Specialist Team Leader. In this role you will act as a therapeutic consultant and practitioner, working in partnership with Permanency Case Managers (PCMs) and Team Leaders to deliver therapeutically enriched care to children. This work will centralise around the formulation and delivery of individualised Behaviour Support Plans developed in accordance with Out-of-Home -Care policy. The Plans will be informed through input from the child’s wider Therapeutic Care Team which will meet each school term under your facilitation. You will be responsible for providing therapeutic support to the carers and other members of the care team, as well as the delivery of training about attachment and trauma to PCMs, Team Leaders, carers and other stakeholders. You will also provide direct therapeutic work with children where appropriate. Regular travel across the Southern and Murrumbidgee DCJ Districts within NSW and the ACT is a requirement of this role.   • Permanent, full-time position
  • $93,860 per annum, plus 11% superannuation
  • Salary packaging available
  • Located in Wagga Wagga,NSW

 

What you’ll bring

 

Essential:

  • Degree in social work/welfare, psychology, counselling or a related discipline; or nearing completion
  • Relevant experience
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to demonstrate the ability to liaise effectively with other professionals/services
  • Capacity to work in a sensitive and impartial manner with families experiencing considerable stress
  • Hold a current driver's license
  • Hold a NSW Working With Children Check

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the current Legislative requirements and accreditation of the PSP within NSW
  • Therapeutic Life Story Work qualification
  • Experience with clients referred by statutory agencies and the practice issues involved
  • Familiarity with a wide range of child welfare and community services
  • Trained to facilitate evidence-based parenting programs
  • Understanding of Family Group conferencing

You will also be required to undergo a National Police Check.
