As the flagship disability employment and mental health service of the Centre for Disability Employment Research and Practice (CDERP), we transform theory into practice, delivering innovative services to both individuals and businesses. 

What you’ll do

This role will also involve working with our COO to deliver our Glide in-school transition program in the western suburbs of Melbourne, along with the employment function. You will work with young people looking to develop an understanding of employment and their career options in post-secondary school. The work takes place in the school and the broader community. In addition, you will work with our adult clients in the community using your counselling skills to support their capacity to engage in employment.
 
This role will ideally suit someone who lives in the western suburbs or is in close proximity. 

Responsibilities include:

  •  Working one-on-one with a small caseload of clients, evaluating their skills, talents, and mental health needs
  •  Facilitating a personalised transition plan, addressing mental health barriers to employment
  •  Utilising strong observational skills and recognising the importance of non-verbal communication cues
  •  Collaborating with a community network to train effective communication techniques, accommodations, and natural supports in the workplace
  •  Facilitating successful school-to-work planning and experiences.

 

The details

  • Casual/vacation position: staff generally begin with 1-2 days per week and if available add more days
  • Aged & Disability Support (Community Services & Development) 
  • Hourly rate of $35-$38
  • Community-based role, located in the western suburbs of Melbourne, VIC. The Head Office is located in Docklands VIC.

  • Possess a valid driver's license and a reliable, fully insured vehicle
  • Advocacy skills on behalf of our clients
  • High level of computer literacy and organisational skills
  • Comfort with diversity, compassion, and exceptional listening skills
  • A degree in Allied Health or a related science area (e.g., psychology, counselling, social work, or a Mental Health diploma).
