Mental Health Advocacy Day

14 September 2023

On Wednesday 13 September, PACFA President Nigel Polak and CEO Johanna de Wever represented members at a day-long event at Parliament House in Canberra hosted by peak body Mental Health Australia.

Minister for Health Mark Butler and Assistant Minister for Mental Health Emma McBride spoke to the attendees emphasising the support of the Albanese government for mental health reform. At the event, Mental Health Australia launched the 2023 report into the mental health of the nation which includes a range of findings about access to mental health care, impact of cost of living pressures and the wellbeing of population groups.

In addition, Nigel and Johanna had conversations with a number of politicians and key advisors as well as other delegates including representatives from RANZCP, RACGP, Beyond Blue, Headspace, Neami, Carers Australia, Australian BPD Foundation, Flourish and a wide range of lived experience organisations. We look forward to continuing these important conversations in the future.
