New PACFA Training Standards (2022) implemented from 1 July 2022

The PACFA Council has voted in favour of implementing revised PACFA Training Standards (2022) from 1 July 2022.

The updates to the training standards do not affect any existing members.

The PACFA Training Standards (2022) enhance quality assurance measures, introducing a requirement for a minimum of five hours of in-training supervision to be conducted on an individual, one-on-one basis. The overall number of hours of supervision required has not increased from ten hours.

The 2022 standards also outline the 3 tracks by which a counsellor, psychotherapist or Indigenous Healing Practitioner may apply to become a PACFA member from 1 July 2022:

  1. Accredited training – for applicants who have completed a PACFA-accredited training program
  2. General membership – for applicants who have completed a government-accredited training program at the level of Bachelor degree or above (Australian Qualifications Framework Level 7 or above)
  3. Recognition of Prior Learning – for applicants with a combination of qualifications and experience that, in their entirety, meet the PACFA Training Standards (2022).

The membership tracks within the PACFA Training Standards (2022) provide a simpler but more robust application process, ensuring that we attract and admit highly-qualified members.

PACFA thanks Education Program Accreditation Committee Chair Biliana Dearly, Professional Standards Committee Chair Kate Briggs, and all volunteer committee and Council members for their work in developing the PACFA Training Standards (2022).
