PACFA Queensland Branch Webinar August

Equine Assisted Mental Health

NOW A WEBINAR 6:00pm-8:00pm AEST

This presentation will provide an understanding of the origins of Equine-Assisted Mental Health (Eagala Model) and how it has evolved over the past 20 years. We will look at the research and populations that benefit from Equine Therapy, who can use it and how to access it.

We will discuss "why horses" as opposed to other animals. What are the unique characteristics and instincts that horses bring to the therapy space and how we as mental health professionals facilitate the interaction between our clients and the horses and how we minimise our involvement in that interaction.

Case studies will be presented for discussion.

Presenters: Helen Sorensen & Michelle Black

Helen has over 60 years experience in the equestrian industry as a competitor, coach and coach educator. She gained her counselling qualifications in 2004 with the intention of combining both her passions, horses and mental health. In 2004 Helen travelled to the US and Canada and underwent training and accreditation in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy ( Eagala model) and has been running her own practice, Equine Alliance, on the Sunshine Coast since.
