About the College

Established in April 2023, the College provides supervisors in Australia with a clear pathway to professional recognition through certification and is committed to leading, enabling, and recognising excellence in the field. It supports supervisors and fosters the advancement of counselling and psychotherapy supervision as a vital professional discipline across Australia.

The College is guided by PACFA's Supervision Training Standards and plays an important role in strengthening ethical and reflective practice across the profession.

The College of Supervision provides certification of supervisors via assessment and entry into the College. Applicants who meet the College's standards and are approved as College of Supervision members, receive certification as supervisors, and receive the Certified Supervisor title and badge.

The College supports a national community of supervisors who are committed to best practice in the provision of supervision. The College encourages professional connection and continuous learning by offering professional development events, networking, workshops and reading groups.

Through its work, the College of Supervision fosters a culture of ethical practice, shared knowledge, and reflective engagement and continues to contribute to the strength and integrity of the provision of supervision in Australia.

About Supervision

PACFA's Associated Registration Standard - Clinical Supervision Standard defines supervision as:

Clinical supervision is a contractual, collaborative process which monitors, develops and supports supervisees in their clinical role.

In clinical supervision, the central focus is on both the optimum outcome for the client, and the professional development and self-care of the supervisee.

The process of clinical supervision is seen to encompass a number of significant components, including a formal agreement between the supervisor and supervisee.

It is an opportunity for supervisees to present relevant material regarding their clinical practice via case discussion, recordings of client sessions, role plays, etc., allowing space for reflective review by the supervisee and feedback by the supervisor. The supervisory relationship and process of supervision should be congruent with the developmental needs of the supervisee.

Clinical supervision can be undertaken as individual supervision and group supervision, and for senior practitioners, peer supervision may be undertaken.
