PACFA's College of Psychotherapy meets to chart course for future, appoints Deputy Convenor

On Thursday 9 May, the College of Psychotherapy Leadership Group met in person to stragetise on key initiatives, including accreditation for psychotherapy training and refined membership criteria, reaffirming their commitment to advancing the profession and supporting its members.

PACFA’s College of Psychotherapy (CoP) Leadership Group (LG) met on Thursday 9 May 2024 to address key issues impacting the profession and outline future steps for the College in advancing the field of psychotherapy.

The in-person meeting, held at PACFA’s offices in Carlton, focused on assessing the current state of the profession and discussing strategic initiatives to drive further progress. A pivotal discussion with PACFA's Head of Education, Nghi Robinson, centered on accreditation for psychotherapy training as an advanced training program, underscoring the College's commitment to elevating educational standards within the field.

The LG devoted the latter part of the day to refining College membership criteria and assessment processes, collaborating with PACFA's Head of Practice, Sophie Keramidopoulos, to streamline the college application process. This emphasis on rigorous standards and accessibility reinforces the College's dedication to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community of professional psychotherapists.

In a significant development, College of Psychotherapy LG member Jodie Gale was appointed Deputy Convenor of the Leadership Group, bringing valuable expertise and perspective to the position.

"The CoP Leadership Group's dedicated efforts are vital to shaping the future of psychotherapy in Australia," says PACFA CEO Johanna de Wever. "We are confident that their ongoing work will result in important advancements for the profession and expanded opportunities for both practitioners and clients."
