Get involved: join the consultation process for Counselling Competencies

PACFA members are invited to register your interest in attending an upcoming consultation meeting regarding counselling competencies. As part of our dedication to the National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP) and our leadership in the sector, PACFA is developing competencies for registration in counselling.

12 June 2024

These competencies are essential to maintaining our registration standards, meeting sector expectations, and reflecting the high quality of counselling practice that PACFA embodies.

How to Participate

To take part in the consultation process:

  • Email Counselling Project Advisor Rachel Friebel ([email protected]) to register your interest and receive an information pack.
  • Attend one of two Zoom sessions in July:
    • Monday 15 July, 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm AEST
    • Saturday 20 July, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm AEST

Additionally, separate consultations will be held with employers and training providers. The feedback gathered from these sessions will be instrumental in refining the competencies and ensuring they align with the needs of all stakeholders.

Why Your Participation Matters

The new statement of counselling competencies will also enable PACFA to establish a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathway at the appropriate time. This pathway will recognize the skills and experiences of practitioners, making it easier to achieve and maintain PACFA registration.

About NASRHP

The National Alliance of Self Regulating Health Professions (NASRHP) provides regulatory quality assurance for self-regulatory health professions in Australia, setting and maintaining national standards to ensure high-quality practice and professionalism among its members.

PACFA's NASRHP qualifying membership follows our successful application in 2022 to become a full member of the Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA). We have two years to achieve full membership of NASRHP, which will include the publication of a range of resources for registration and practice.

Your involvement is crucial to this process. By contributing your insights and expertise, you will help shape the future of counselling practice and ensure PACFA continues to lead the way in professional standards.
