Council convenes for productive meeting

PACFA Council's first meeting of the year was held via Zoom on Saturday, 18 May 2024 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Over 30 members participated, including representatives from PACFA's local branches, college leadership groups, interest groups, committees, member associations and the Board.

The PACFA Council kicked off 2024 with a dynamic virtual meeting held on Saturday, 18 May, 2024, from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Over 30 members participated, including representatives from PACFA's local branches, college leadership groups, interest groups, committees, member associations, and the Board. This diverse group, including new energised volunteers, brought a vibrant energy to the discussions.

The meeting featured key presentations and updates on various PACFA initiatives. President Nigel Polak offered insights into PACFA's organisational strategy, key focus areas, and its positioning within the allied health sector. He also discussed the ongoing Constitution review; plans were discussed to share his Council presentation more widely in due course.

CEO Johanna de Wever provided valuable updates on several fronts. She shed light on recent Healthcare Complaints Commission data, the exciting development of digital badges for members, and current membership demographics. Additionally, Johanna presented an update on the Professional Competencies project, outlining its background, process, and alignment with the Program Accreditation Standards Review.

PACFA's Head of Education Nghi Robinson addressed the group on the Program Accreditation Standards Review, offering details on its background, current progress, and the status of the 2022 Training Standards. She also provided a comprehensive overview of PACFA's regulatory function.

There was great excitement surround the work of PACFA’s Colleges, which was presented by Head of Practice Sophie Keramidopoulos, and a separate update about the strategy of boosting profile through digital badges.

PACFA’s Professional Standards Committee Chair Dr Pamela Brear updated Council on Recency of Practice, providing background on the organisation’s Registration Standards and Associated Registration Standards.

Dr Di Stow also spoke briefly to Council, with various member updates from local Branches, Interest Groups, and Colleges also well received by all attending.

The PACFA Council consists of representatives from PACFA’s colleges, branches, committees, member associations, and Board. The Council is responsible for making important decisions regarding PACFA’s future, including setting the criteria for training and ethical standards, creating new colleges, and setting membership requirements.
