PACFA has launched a new PACFA registration pathway for current Level 3 and 4 members of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) with Bachelor or Masters level qualifications. This pathway allows for greater variation in placement and online training than has been accepted previously due to substantial professional practice experience. Additionally, this pathway will recognise the value of their ongoing commitment to registration and professional practice experience, and aims to build a stronger, more cohesive voice for tertiary-qualified counsellors and psychotherapists across Australia.
This pathway is solely open to ACA Level 3 and 4 members who were current and existing members as of 18 November 2023, hold Bachelor or Masters level qualifications and can demonstrate substantial professional practice experience. This ensures that the integrity and standards of PACFA registration are upheld.
To further support this expert workforce, PACFA will waive all application fees for transferring ACA members until July 1 2024. Please note that the registration fee is separate from the application fee and will need to be paid upon application approval. Applications are estimated to take no more than 4 weeks.
In recognition of their skills and experience, current Level 3 and 4 ACA members with Bachelor or Masters level qualifications who transfer to PACFA will automatically join as Registered Clinical Counsellors and as members of the College of Counselling without needing to accrue additional client contact hours.
All Private Health Insurance provider numbers remain valid for the period of registration transition.

PACFA continues to welcome applications from graduates of non-PACFA accredited tertiary courses via our standard application procedures. Please note that PACFA does not accept vocational qualifications for registration.
