PACFA attends annual National Heads of Counselling and Psychotherapy Education event

13 November 2023

On 13 October 2023, PACFA President Nigel Polak, CEO Johanna de Wever, and Head of Education Nghi Robinson attended the annual National Heads of Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (NHCPE) networking meeting held at Morling College in Sydney. The networking event for NHCPE members, held annually in-person, had the focus of Factors Shaping Counsellor Training for the Future. Both Nigel and Johanna spoke at the event on this topic and more specifically regarding the future of counselling from PACFA’s perspective.

Factors discussed that were seen as shaping counsellor training for the future included regulation and recognition, national training standards, counsellor identity and values, technology, employability, research, higher education, and professional associations.

Following Nigel’s and Johanna’s presentations at the well-attended event, a question-and-answer session was held.

Nigel, Johanna and Nghi welcomed the opportunity to attend the event and thoroughly enjoyed the session. PACFA looks forward to a continuing relationship with NCHPE.

The National Heads of Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (NHCPE) is an independent network whose aim is to support the development of counselling and psychotherapy higher education programs within Australia and to offer advice as an expert panel to professional associations and to the government. The network is made up of a wide representation of senior academics from public and private higher education institutions across Australia.
