Intimate Partner Violence 1 Day Training

25 October 2024. 8:30am - 4:30pm AEDT

The growing awareness and media attention of Intimate Partner Violence means there will be a higher rate of reporting in the counselling setting. For counsellors working in a private practice setting this can be a daunting and important opportunity to have an impact.

In this one day training - Jenny Sanbrook will give a detailed explanation of how IPV shows up in the Private Practice setting in both individual and couples therapy. She will share her knowledge via the most up-to-date theory and research and provide case examples to elucidate this area further.

The presentation will cover important statistical information about IPV, up-to-date information around coercive control, attitudes, beliefs and risk factors, along with ways to identify and respond to IPV in the private practice setting including the challenges of socio-political landscape with reference to how this affects our therapy with men and women.

Jenny will give case examples of different types of IPV cases and provide ways to identify appropriate responses to use with both victims and perpetrators. The workshop will equip therapists with up-to-date strategies and resources with reference to current ethics and guidelines via the use of slides and readings that can be directly translated into the therapy room for clients.
