2023 Update to PACFA Accreditation
Aligned with PACFA’s ongoing commitment to support high-quality counselling and psychotherapy training into the future, a review of the accreditation function was undertaken in the first half of 2023. Following the review, the Board has endorsed several recommendations. These key recommendations will allow PACFA to implement the proposed improvements and facilitate further review of the PACFA Accreditation Standards, ensuring that all associated processes and guidelines are adequately revised and formalised.
Extension of accreditation expiry
For programs scheduled for re-accreditation reviews in the upcoming year, PACFA is implementing a change to ensure programs are reviewed against an updated set of Standards. Any current program accreditation periods due to expire within the next twelve months will be extended and remain accredited for a further twelve months from the current accreditation end date. It is important to note that providers will not be disadvantaged in any way by accommodating the change in accreditation period.
Interim measure for accreditation reviews
Additionally, to ensure a thorough and effective implementation of the revised accreditation process, there is a temporary pause on accreditation reviews. This interim measure aims to facilitate a smooth transition to the updated processes, ensuring that all reviews are consistent and conducted in accordance with PACFA’s stringent guidelines.
Please note that PACFA is not currently accepting new applications for accreditation while we perform a review of our Accreditation Standards.
In the coming year, PACFA will provide further updates on the progress of the review of the Accreditation Standards Review as more information becomes available. Additionally, details regarding the revised process and guidelines, including its anticipated implementation date, will be communicated well in advance.
