PACFA is lobbying for recognition of counselling and psychotherapy by federal and state governments. The aims of our lobbying efforts are to:
- Gain recognition of counsellors and psychotherapists as an important part of Australia’s mental health workforce
- Obtain Medicare numbers for suitably qualified and experienced counsellors and psychotherapists
- Obtain recognition by other government departments and agencies such as Veterans Affairs, Education Departments, Human Services Departments, Transport Accident Commissions and WorkCover agencies in each state
- Create employment opportunities for counsellors and psychotherapists by lobbying potential employers and employee assistance programs
PACFA has formed a partnership with the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) through ARCAP, The Australian Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists, to lobby government at the federal level.
PACFA is developing a range of materials to support our lobbying efforts.
