This time it's different!
Please watch Stutz on Netflix or YouTube before you come. We'll discuss our impressions of the conversations that comedic actor Jonah Hill has with his therapist, Phil Stutz, both during and between therapy sessions, as well as how the therapy process is portrayed and the implications of this for us, our clients and third parties.
While this is a departure from reading some of the heavier material we've had so far, there'll be no lack of depth and substance for us to ponder.
Join us as we explore and analyse the documentary Stutz, featuring conversations between actor and filmmaker Jonah Hill and his therapist, Phil Stutz. Together, we will reflect on the therapeutic themes that emerge, examine the depiction of therapy both within and outside the consulting room, and consider the implications for practitioners, clients, and the broader public understanding of psychotherapy.
Attendance at the previous session is not required, and new participants are warmly welcomed. This event offers a valuable space for professional dialogue, shared reflection, and continued learning in a collegial environment.
Learning outcomes:
- Critical Thinking & Analysis: Participants will be able to evaluate key ideas, arguments and evidence presented in the documentary, and apply them to professional contexts such as private practice or working within a larger organisation providing counselling, such as community organisations and EAP providers.
- Communication Skills: Participants will improve their ability to articulate insights, ask thoughtful questions and engage in constructive discussions with peers.
