By the end of this interactive webinar, participants will understand the Affirmative Model of Disability and its application to counselling, along with key Australian sexual violence laws, capacity considerations, and mandatory reporting. They will review current research and statistics on sexual violence involving people with disabilities, including insights into perpetration. The session guides practitioners to recognise personal, cultural, and systemic biases that affect assessment, engagement, and outcomes, and to reflect on how bias impacts safety and accountability. Participants will also learn inclusive, ethical, and evidence informed counselling strategies tailored to perpetrators with disabilities, including adaptations for accessibility, trauma informed practice, and behaviour focused interventions. The webinar covers foundational topics such as establishing psychological safety, defining disability through an affirmative lens, legal frameworks, prevalence data, and practical approaches for safety planning and promoting responsibility. It is designed to strengthen practitioner confidence when supporting clients with disabilities in sexual violence and safeguarding contexts.
