Art therapy for counsellors & therapists: an experiential workshop

This unique course presenting ‘Art Therapy for Counsellors & Mental Health Workers’ is an online experiential series of interactive workshops. The cost is $180 and will be held on the following dates: August 3, 10, 17, & 24 2026 6:30-8:30pm EST. To enrol, please contact Helen via her website or her email.

Art therapy can provide a valuable tool for therapists and counsellors to help their clients individually and in groups. In this series of workshop, Helen will give a brief introduction to art therapy and how she works. Topics covered include, how to invite and support clients to engage in art processes; how to work relationally with clients using creative media; how art provides a way for individuals to express themselves in a nonverbal way; how art can heighten awareness, meaning making and consolidate the work of therapy.

You will use a variety of creative media: pastels, paints, collage and clay and engage in various art activities. On enrolment a material list will be provided. This workshop is interactive and so you will have an opportunity to share with other participants your experiences and how you might apply what you learn in your work place. The Gestalt Art 4-week online course addresses ethical conduct, diversity and emerging practices by creating a safe, respectful space for self-expression. Ethical conduct is emphasized through confidentiality and respect for personal boundaries, fostering a supportive group dynamic where participants can share personal experiences openly.

Learning outcomes:
• How to introduce art into their practice and understand how to work with creative materials in an embodied and sensory way with emphasis on presence and the process of art making.
• How to work relationally with creative media.
• Experience how art provides a way for individuals to express themselves in a nonverbal way, communicating feeling and experiences.
• Understand and experience how art can heighten awareness, meaning making and consolidate the work of the therapy.
Each week we will work with a different medium, pastels on paper, collage, modelling medium and paint.
