Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) Essentials

The EFFT Essentials training is designed as a professional development opportunity to equip mental health professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge for effective practice in working with families. Through theoretical teachings, practical exercises, and collaborative learning, this program aims to deepen understanding and application of the EFFT model, enabling participants to positively impact the mental health and well-being of the families they serve.

This basic training event includes:
EFFT Principles: Exploring the theoretical foundations of EFFT and its unique family system perspective.
Family Dynamics: Understanding how to identify and address negative interactional cycles within families.
Restructuring Interactions: Learning to facilitate new, more secure ways of relating within the family unit.
Practical Application: Gaining hands-on experience through case discussions and simulated family sessions.

Learning objectives:
By the completion of this 24-hour foundational training, participants will be able to:
- Describe the theoretical foundations of Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), including attachment theory, systemic principles, and experiential approaches that inform the model.
- Explain the impact of attachment processes within family systems.
- Conceptualise family presentations using an EFFT framework, including identifying negative interactional cycles, relational positions, attachment needs, and emotional vulnerabilities.
- Identify and map repetitive interactional patterns within family relationships.
- Demonstrate understanding of the stages and key interventions of the EFFT model, including alliance building, de-escalation, restructuring interactions, and consolidation of new relational experiences.
- Support family members to access and express underlying emotions and attachment needs in ways that promote emotional accessibility, responsiveness, and engagement.

Presenter:
Carolynne Moffat is an ICEEFT Certified Trainer. She holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and formerly practised as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the United States. She has maintained a longstanding Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)-focused private practice in both the United States and Australia, bringing extensive clinical experience to her therapeutic and training work.
