PACFA PD:Exploring Emotions Through Art: Learning from Master Artworks and Creative Practice

PACFA College of Creative and Experiential Therapies invites you to join Joanne Château for a 2-hour experiential CPD workshop on using master artworks and art-making as tools for emotional awareness, expression, and meaning-making in therapeutic practice.

Emotions are central to therapeutic work, yet they can be complex, layered, and difficult to articulate through words alone. This workshop explores how master artworks and art-making can be used as powerful tools to support emotional awareness, expression, and meaning-making in therapeutic and reflective practice. This program has been delivered and reviewed within a psychiatric hospital setting, and evaluation findings will be discussed.

Participants will engage in guided viewing of selected master artworks, reflective discussion, and hands-on art-making activities. The session will be experiential, supportive, and grounded in reflective practice, with time allocated for discussion and integration of learning into professional contexts including, but not limited to, the psychiatric population. No prior art experience is required.

Participants are encouraged to have basic art materials available such as pencils, coloured pencils, markers, or paints — to engage with the hands-on components of the session.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explore how master artworks can be used to support emotional awareness and expression in therapeutic contexts.
  • Engage with art-making as a tool for reflection and meaning-making in professional practice.
  • Review evaluation findings from delivery of this program within a psychiatric hospital setting.
  • Identify ways to integrate arts-based approaches into their own practice contexts.

Who is this event for?

This session is suited to practitioners working in therapeutic and reflective practice settings who are interested in incorporating creative approaches into their work. No prior art experience is required.
