Relationship between "body" and "psychoanalysis"

Relationship between "body" and "psychoanalysis"
The relationship between “body” and “psychoanalysis” has been ever-evolving since Freud’s initial conceptualisation. This PD webinar considers this relationship from a sense of embodied belonging, bringing in aspects of relational psychoanalysis, contemporary self-psychology, interpersonal neurobiology and affect theory (including affective neuroscience).
It begins with a brief overview of home, belonging in relationship, (dis)embodiment, and the emotional intelligence competencies. This helps to ensure we have a stable base of understanding before moving on to the complexities of relationships in general and specifically that between “body” and “psychoanalysis”.
This is followed by an overlay of attunement. The outside (objective) view is used to position the argument before moving to a more experience-near view of attunement and intersubjectivity. This inside view incorporates the notion of home and belonging and shows examples of what happens if subjective needs are not being met in this particular relationship. In this case the subjects are “body” and “psychoanalysis”.

This PD facilitates a deeper and subjective experience between the participant and their practice by describing the shifts that have occurred in the relationship between body and practice in an immersive way, underpinned by case studies. We will draw on clinical examples of embodiment and disembodiment via sharing the practical use of the body in sessions, in various ways.
This PD is aimed at any practitioners wanting to link theory and experience in a very subjective way, while learning more about embodiment and the transformational aspect of relationships. Also, those with an interest in the current shifts in psychoanalysis itself and as part of the cultural and intellectual movement from postmodernism to metamodernism.

After watching the recording you will be able to:
• Identify the changing aspects of the relationship between “body” and “psychoanalysis” from inception to present.
• Link the ideas of “home” and “relationship” to “embodied belonging” in respect to self and other.
• List the key components of postmodernism and metamodernism.
• Explore the alignment of the relationship between “body” and “psychoanalysis with clinical psychotherapeutic relational practice.
