ACRC presents: Working with Relationships in the context of the Death of a Child/ Young Person
This presentation will examine the additional strain, stress and complexity imposed on a relationship following the death of a child/young person. There will be an examination of the reasons for this, the common pitfalls that couples can fall into and things to be mindful of as practitioners in this field. Theoretical input about grief as it pertains to this area will be touched on and some techniques and strategies in working with bereaved couples to consider.
Vera has, for the past 14 years, worked as the palliative care and bereavement counsellor for the Kids Cancer Centre at the Sydney Childrens Hospital, Randwick. She has also for the past 21 years, maintained a private practice in bereavement counselling. Prior to that, she had worked in a variety of hospital settings as a social worker. She has been involved in providing bereavement PD for hospital staff, has presented at national and international conferences. Perhaps more interestingly, she loves good movies, good red wine, Labrador dogs, yoga, walking, travelling and caffeinated catch-ups with friends.
