Mental health professionals are increasingly working with clients who experience both neurodivergence and disordered eating- an intersection that requires nuanced, inclusive, and well-informed approaches. This six-hour professional development webinar offers essential training for counsellors, psychologists, social workers, and other mental health workers seeking to understand and support this underserved population more effectively.
Neurodivergent individuals - such as those with autism, ADHD, or sensory processing differences - are at greater risk of developing disordered eating behaviours due to factors like sensory sensitivities, executive functioning challenges, and rigid thinking patterns.
Traditional treatment approaches often fail to meet their unique needs. This course explores the evidence-based research behind this overlap and introduces practical tools that can be immediately integrated into therapeutic work. Participants will learn to identify disordered eating presentations commonly seen in neurodivergent clients (including ARFID, binge eating, and ritualistic behaviours), understand the role of trauma and masking, and apply trauma-informed, neuroaffirming
strategies to enhance safety, trust, and engagement in the therapeutic space.
With a mix of theory, case studies, lived experience insights, and clinical tools, the session provides a rich and practical learning experience. You’ll leave with greater confidence and clarity in tailoring interventions to meet neurodivergent needs-whether you're new to this space or an experienced clinician looking to expand your skillset.
