As we are well aware, the hinges of human history have turned profoundly upon the advent of the Coronavirus Epidemic. Almost overnight, human beings had to change their interactions with society from personal interactions to electronic interactions and remain, largely, in isolation. As we stand upon the threshold of a post epidemic era, we need to consider, for ourselves as well as for our clients, ways to embrace new rhythms of intrafamilial and interpersonal relationships. In this way we can ensure that, whilst the impact of the Coronavirus Epidemic has been profound, it does not have to leave an ineffaceable as well as impoverished way of relating with one another. To this end, CCAA is delighted to present two notable speakers, Joy Anasta and Robyn Lyngard, for this full day Professional Development Presentation.

Excuse me, may I have your attention?  with Joy Anasta

Isolation and shutdowns saw Covid become a time of increased dissociative disorders, disconnection and levels of internal chaos. How do we find our way back, now that we can go ‘back into the world’, especially for our young people who have found a world inside their screen. As humans we seek, indeed desire, connection; but Covid has left its mark with increased social anxiety and uncertainty about how to reach out.

Gottman methods to assist couples connect post Covid restrictions with Robyn Lyngard

People are healthier and wealthier in stable couple relationships. This workshop will use the research and methodology of Drs John & Julie Gottman* to assist couples establish healthy long-term relationships. Particular attention will be given to expanding relationship flexibility and capacity in light of current influences from the covid pandemic. Since covid restrictions began in early 2020, couples have faced various changes to their lifestyles such as interruptions to children’s education, changes in employment, re-evaluating priorities, and heightened challenges in caring for older family members. In this workshop, we will explore ways to equip couples to navigate these new rhythms of living. Robyn will focus upon assisting couples to further their emotional connection through enhancing their conflict management skills, building their friendship, managing stress outside of their relationship (employment, church, extended family relationships etc), and having conversations around changed priorities and life goals.

In 2014, under the supervision of CCAA founder, Dr John Court, her research into couples relationships and the management of chronic illness was published in the international Family Journal: Counselling & Therapy for Couples & Families.  To obtain Gottman certification, Robyn was required to extensively record her therapeutic work for examination by the Gottman Institute.
