2 Day Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Intensive
Training
Running 17-18th April, 5-6th June, and 21-22nd August 2023
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Intensive will
teach participants the Biosocial Therapy of Borderline Personality Disorder and
the criteria for diagnosis in both DSM IV and V will be discussed. The Therapy
description will be detailed and evidence of its success with BPD and other
mental disorders will be discussed. Participants will learn the way DBT is
framed in Dialectics, Validation and Acceptance strategies and the styles of
communication with Therapists will be fully articulated. Pre-treatment
commitment and orienting strategies and therapists agreements will be discussed
as well as the Stages and Targets of Treatment. Individual DBT Therapy
techniques will be presented including 'Suicide Rise Assessment, phone
coaching, chain analysis and use of diary cards'. The four skills of DBT will
be taught and modelled over the last day of training
Day 1 Biosocial Theory of BPD Disorder,
DSMIV/V, Description of DBT and Statistics and Research discussion. 5 Functions
of Treatment, Standards and Modes of Treatment. Researched Model of DBT
described (Prof. M. Linehan). Dialectics and Validation techniques. Strategies
of Encouragement, Genuineness, DBT Styles of Communication. Pre-Treatment
Stage, Orienting and Commitment strategies, Goals, Patients and Therapists
Agreements. Stages and Targets of Treatment. Individual DBT Therapy, Crisis
Intervention, Suicide Risk Assessment, Phone Coaching, Treating Wilfullness,
Diary Cards, Chain Analysis Role Play of interaction with Client - commitment
to therapy, suicide assessment. Implementing DBT in a System - How it could
work DBT Consultation Team Agreements - Working as a team. Creating an art
exercise (no talent required) that represents the Wise Mind Skill.
Day 2 Skills Training Group - Rules and
Structure Skill of Mindfulness, States of Mind Skill of Distress Tolerance,
Emotional Regulation Skills from beginning to End Interpersonal Effectiveness
Skills Assumptions of DBT and Resources. As Megan is a Registered Art Therapist
she will be showing you how to use creativity alongside DBT
Skills. Clients images will be explained.
Certificate
If
participants would like PACFA professional development points, they are
required to complete an assessment with an 80% pass rate.

Shiell who was trained in 2008 by Prof. Marsha Linehan’s trainers in ‘Comprehensive DBT’.
Megan has worked as a DBT Consultant for many years, developing many programs
for health care organizations around Australia. She has conducted many skills
training groups herself and has also been a DBT Individual Therapist for the
past 13 years both in institutions and in private practice.
Over the last 9 years Megan has
moved into training and has now trained around 2000 Clinicians. Megan is a
Level 4 Counsellor and a registered Art Psychotherapist. Megan likes to show participants
of her trainings how creativity can be a useful tool alongside DBT
Skills.
Megan has also trained many
mental health agencies and NGO’s looking after clients of all ages with mental
health issues. Training can be tailored to specific region’s needs and
information on how to set up a DBT program including Therapists Consult groups.
This course counts towards 8 hours of category A CPD.
