Deep Dive into Dyspareunia: a multidisciplinary workshop on sexual pain

 

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University have developed a new 1 day live, online course on managing sexual pain. In this course we have the opportunity to dive deeper into the breadth and complexities of helping people who are experiencing painful sex.
 
The morning will include 30 minute presentations from our multidisciplinary faculty of speakers (GP, Gynaecologist, Vulval Dermatologist, Sexual Medicine Specialist and Sexual & Relationship Therapist, Physiotherapist, Pain Specialist and Psychologist) with Q&A. The afternoon will be interactive case discussions including cases across the lifespan, inclusive of diversity of gender, sexual orientation, relationship status & structure, culture, and clinical features.

Course Aim: This workshop will cover the assessment and management of patients presenting with sexual pain from a bio-psycho-socio-cultural and multidisciplinary perspective.

Learning Objectives: 

  • Demonstrate an ability to take a comprehensive history to clarify the aetiological factors contributing to painful sex in
    the presenting client.
  • Identify and evaluate contributing psychosexual factors.
  • Implement trauma informed care of clients.
  • Apply evidence-based principles to create a management plan for dealing with sexual pain.
  • Understand their own scope of practice, the need for multidisciplinary care, and reasons for referral for medical or
    physiotherapy management where needed.

This course counts towards 5 hours of category A CPD.
