Anorexia, Bulimia, Obesity: Going behind the label

Prof. Maurizio Andolfi

Anorexia, Bulimia, Obesity:
Going behind the label of eating disorders and getting to the roots of the problem

12 October 2024. 9:30am - 4:30pm AEST

This workshop will cover the issues of Eating Disorder and Obesity from a multigenerational perspective.

The goal is to demonstrate the usefulness of going beyond the medical modality of labelling and focusing on food and medication to treat the disorder. If we move out of the medical description, we might observe the deeper underlying issues of many adolescents who signal through their bodies and actions their discomfort and exasperated search for care and love.

Participants can discover innovative ways of working with anorexic, bulimic and obese clients by giving competence back to the young persons in the context of their extended families.

Participants will learn how to use themselves freely in psychotherapy and counselling adopting a humanistic and creative approach.

A power Point will be presented to illustrate the main themes of the course and video segments of Andolfi’s family work with ED and Obese clients will be shown and discussed.
