ADHD Skills Program Using Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Skills

Expressive Therapy Clinic offers a unique opportunity for health care professionals to participate in a self-paced 10 session program specifically designed for clients of all ages who experience ADHD symptoms. The adding of DBT Skills that are focused on addressing emotional dysregulation, impulsive control and inattention, which are often the most difficult symptoms of ADHD, are taught in this program.

Manual and handouts included. (Optional creative exercises are also added and no talent is required).

As an Art Psychotherapist as well as a Counsellor and DBT Consultant over the last 20 years, Megan has found that learning skills both verbally and non-verbally can be an advantage for clients.
  
The knowledge gained is especially helpful for Health Care Professionals, Teachers, School Counsellors, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Counsellors, Art therapists, support workers, students and people interested in gaining more skills to increase general wellness for themselves and for others they work with. 

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will learn:
• About ADHD and descriptions of the symptoms of ADHD
• Recommended approaches medication and skills programs
• How DBT program could be re-structured to specifically assist ADHD Sufferers of all ages
• Which DBT skills would be most appropriate to assist with the specific symptoms an ADHD sufferer may experience
• How to target emotion regulation, impulsive behaviour with Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness to improve the lives of ADHD sufferers
• The role of a Coach in assisting this client group

Presenter/s:

Megan Shiell is a Level 4 Counsellor, a Registered Art Psychotherapist and a Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Consultant and trainer.  She is the director of Expressive Therapy Clinic and offers a unique opportunity for health care professionals and educators to participate in a self-paced 10 session program specifically designed for clients of all ages who experience ADHD symptoms. The adding of DBT Skills that are focused on addressing emotional dysregulation, impulsive control and inattention, which are often the most difficult symptoms of ADHD, are taught in this program. 

Megan is passionate about the way Dialectical Behaviour Therapy can assist sufferers of emotional dysregulation. Over the past 9 years she has trained over 2000 clinicians in the use of DBT and also in the use of DBT alongside an experiential therapy Art Therapy.

Megan has presented both in Australia, and Internationally on the subject of DBT and its uses in mental health arenas and has published her work in DBT and Art Therapy in the ANZATA Journal 2008.

Megan has written a chapter in a book titled “DBT-Informed Art Therapy in Practice” edited by Susan M. Clark and published in 2020.

Megan conducts some Face to Face intensive DBT training programs for organizations located near her area in Northern NSW and Qld.  Her passion is to train as many Clinicians as possible in how to assist their clients using DBT.

This course counts towards 6 hours of category A CPD.
