Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Positive
Psychology and art making exercises assisting clients in developing resilience
and distress tolerance.
Running 13th March, 19th June, 11th September, and 4th December 2023
By the end of
the one-day workshop participants will be able to: 1. know how to Use some of
the skills of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Positive Psychology strategies
2. Learn how art exercises can add a non-verbal layer of learning to enhance
the use of these skills.
The knowledge
gained is especially helpful for Health Care Professionals, Teachers, School
Counsellors, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Counsellors,
Art therapists and people interested in gaining more skills to increase general
wellness for themselves and for others they work with.
Session 1
Introduction
to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and States of Mind. How to get to ‘Wise Mind’
Artwork – Pencils and paper (10am – 11am)
Session 2
Distress
Tolerance – Distraction and Self- Soothe. Artwork – Collage (magazines, paper
glue and scissors – perhaps texters) (11am – 12.00pm)
Session 3
Emotion
Regulation – How do I maintain health emotions – Old Box, magazines Glue,
scissors (12.00 pm - 1.00pm)
Lunch-
1pm – 1.30pm
Session 4
Introduction
to Positive Psychology – Savouring and Remembering – Art Work - Find a momento
or a photo that brings you joy – construction from found objects in the home
symbolizing this event and the joy. (1.30pm – 2.30pm)
Session 5
Expressing
Gratitude and Finding Meaning – Art Work – make a survival box (2.30 – 3.00)
Session 6
Developing
Strengths and Resilience – Artwork – symbol of inner resilience (3.00–3.45pm)
Reflections
and Questions 3.45 – 4.00pm
Certificate
If
participants would like PACFA professional development points, they are
required to complete an assessment with an 80% pass rate.

Your facilitator is Megan
Shiell who was trained in 2008 by Prof. Marsha Linehan’s trainers in ‘Comprehensive DBT’.
Megan has worked as a DBT Consultant for many years, developing many programs
for health care organizations around Australia. She has conducted many skills
training groups herself and has also been a DBT Individual Therapist for the
past 13 years both in institutions and in private practice.
Over the last 9 years Megan has
moved into training and has now trained around 2000 Clinicians. Megan is a
Level 4 Counsellor and a registered Art Psychotherapist. Megan likes to show
participants of her trainings how creativity can be a useful tool alongside DBT
Skills.
This course counts towards 8 hours of category A CPD.
